WandaVision episode 4 spoilers follow.
We knew that WandaVision was going to play a part in setting up Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but it's also had a say in another future MCU movie.
The fourth episode of the brilliant Marvel series picks up from the events of the previous episode that saw Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) seemingly expelled from Westview after mentioning Ultron.
But the opening of the episode would have been a surprise to all Marvel fans and it also led to the episode confirming the fate of a Captain Marvel character, likely ruling out a return for them in Captain Marvel 2.
Spoilers are ahead, so look away now if you haven't seen WandaVision episode four yet.
The dramatic start to the episode revealed that Monica was a victim of Thanos's Snap and showed her return to the world due to the events of Avengers: Endgame. She reassembled in a hospital room where she was waiting by the bed of somebody when she was dusted.
It turned out that the person she was keeping company when the Snap happened was her mother Maria Rambeau, played in Captain Marvel by Lashana Lynch. However, Maria didn't return at the same time as Monica.
Tragically, Monica finds out that although five years ago, Maria had successful surgery to beat cancer, it returned after Monica had disappeared and she is told that her mother died three years ago.
RIP Maria 'Photon' Rambeau.

We did at least find out that after the events of Captain Marvel, Maria founded SWORD – the Sentient Weapon Observation and Response Division – which will form a major part of Phase 4 going forward.
However, her death off-screen potentially rules out any Captain Marvel 2 appearance unless it takes place before WandaVision in the MCU timeline.
Parris has been confirmed to reprise her role as Monica Rambeau in the sequel, so if Maria is going to be involved, it could be that the sequel takes place before Avengers: Infinity War in the timeline. It could perhaps centre on the origins of SWORD and Monica's earlier days as an agent working with her mother as SWORD director.
That would seem like an odd setting for Captain Marvel 2 as it wouldn't allow for much character development of Monica or Captain Marvel herself. It seems more likely to take place after the events of WandaVision, which would rule out a return for Maria beyond flashbacks.
For now, we'll just have to watch this space, while we try and work out what the hell is happening in Westview.
