Coronavirus hits 'Aladdin' just a day after reopening, show canceled - New York Post

Broadway is back — and so is coronavirus.

“Aladdin” performances have been halted after unnamed members in the musical’s cast and/or crew tested positive for COVID-19. The Broadway show had just reopened on Tuesday but will now be shut down again.

Disney Theatrical Productions announced on Wednesday that at least one upcoming show would be canceled.

“Through our rigorous testing protocols, breakthrough COVID-19 cases have been detected within the company of ‘Aladdin’ at The New Amsterdam Theater,” the company announced in an official statement.

The company said they would refund customers’ tickets, and admitted that they don’t know when “Aladdin” will be up and running again.

“We will continue to provide support to the affected ‘Aladdin’ company members as they recover,” the statement concluded.

It was announced on Sept. 14 that NYC’s Theater District would be turning its bright lights back on again, reopening to the masses for the first time since the city-mandated shut-downs of March 2020.

Broadway shows such as  “Hamilton,” “Wicked,” “The Lion King” and “Chicago” would have 100% capacity in their auditoriums.

“At least 30 shows are reopening between now and the end of the year,” said Anne del Castillo, commissioner of the New York City Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment.
